What started in Belgium as a ?sh feed production company in the 1980s, Royal Belgium Caviar has since evolved and is now considered one of Europe’s most acclaimed producers of caviars. In the early nineties, biologist Dr. Willy Verdonck was engaged in the breeding of sturgeon caviar, which yielded the ?rst results in 2002. Through years of intensive research, Dr. Verdonck managed to completely control the breeding cycle of some sturgeon species (and he is now considered an international authority on caviar production).

The eggs used for this Royal Belgian Platinum Caviar originate from a hybrid sturgeon. This sturgeon is a crossbreed between two caviar producing species the Russian Osetra Sturgeon and the Siberian Sturgeon. The breed combines a number of excellent characteristics from both parental species: a pleasing color varying from gray-green to dark olive, a larger grain size of 3mm or more, and a rich ?avor that in a blind taste test turned out to be most similar to the coveted Osetra. This artisanally produced caviar is unlike any Guelden-Baerii caviar on the global market today.
